I think my weight started gradually gaining when I went to college and I just wasn’t as active. And in law school I was less active because I was doing more studying and not as much exercising. I always tell people that (bariatric surgery) was the best decision and most important decision that I ever made. I feel so much better, and so much healthier. And I never really felt unhealthy before, but I know how much healthier I am now.
Now I listen to my body. I know how much and what to eat. And I spend more quality time with my husband and kids. Knowing how active I was in church and being an avid motorcyclist, my surgeon and I chose Clovis Community for Roux-en-Y gastric bypass surgery in 2003.
I felt my health was going in the wrong direction, and so I chose Roux-en-Y gastric bypass surgery in 2007. Problems with diabetes and high blood pressure are now behind me, and my new lifestyle includes hiking, rock climbing and horseback riding. For my surgery, I wanted the best of the best. I chose Clovis Community because being a Center of Excellence really mattered to me.
Right before surgery, my little brother and I went to Magic Mountain, and those things that pull down on roller coasters weren’t comfortable. I was like 'Oh, I've got to lose weight.' I had a normal life like everybody, but I was overweight. And I think after the surgery I think I have more self-confidence. My mom and I actually had the surgery together. They wheeled me in and I had my surgery, and then wheeled me out and then my mom went in. We got to stay in the same room, and we kept each other company. It was kind of cool.
